About

Soroptimist International is a worldwide volunteer service organization for women who work for peace, and in particular to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement with a network of around 72,000 club members in 121 countries. Advocating for human rights and gender equality, at the heart of Soroptimist International’s advocacy is its work across eight UN Centres, where our UN representatives ensure that the voices of women and girls are heard.

Soroptimist Chennai, affiliated to the Soroptimist International - Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI), has a membership of 30 passionate women and we work on grassroots projects that help women and girls achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in their community. We conduct facilitated workshops and interactive sessions for adolescent girls and boys under Project ORANGE to bring awareness on violence against women and promote gender equality.

We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.

Empowered women

empowering others

Our Mission is to empower women from the lower income classes in Chennai by enabling them to stand on their own feet.

We promote and support educational and vocational training efforts in various localities in Chennai. Where possible we encourage local initiatives in livelihood creation and sustainable value creation.
